HYDE — A Saturday visit to the hardwood is not common during any basketball season. A lot of times it is done to make up a game from earlier in the season, and in this case it is to try and make up for not being able to hold any games prior to January 4. The Clearfield Lady Bison didn’t hit the hardwood for the first time until Wednesday, but Saturday was the first time they would hit the court inside the Bison Gym.
The first home game of the 2021 season came against the Philipsburg-Osceola Lady Mounties, and after one quarter of play, neither team really had a feel for who was the better. Thanks to strong defense, and some timely shooting, Clearfield got back to their winning ways with a 53-22 rout that finished under a running clock.
After the first eight minutes, neither squad had an edge as it was tied up 8-8. That was when the Lady Bison got cooking on both offense and defense. P-O could only muster four points in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Clearfield roared to life and put up 14 points and never looked back
Megan Durandetta fueled the Clearfield offense by draining 15 points…on only five shots. She found her spot behind the arc and made sure each shot counted. Joining her in double figures was Kayleigh Walker with 11 points.
The Lady Mounties only put up 14 points in the final 24 minutes, and by the time the fourth quarter started the running clock was in effect as the Clearfield reserves got some extra playing time.
The Lady Bison raised their record to 2-1 on the young season.
P-O will get a chance to avenge that loss rather quickly. These two teams will meet up for the second time on Monday night, this time at the P-O Area High School. Tip-off for the varsity contest is approximately 7:30 p.m.
