PHILIPSBURG — It has been a grueling start to the season for the Clearfield Bison. A season that was to start last week instead started five days late, and with games every day, being tired is bound to happen. But, the Bison loaded up the bus and made the short trip to Philipsburg for their fourth straight game in as many days to take on the Mounties.
The back-and-forth contest had everyone in the Mountie Gym, within guidelines, excited and cheering, but in the end it was the visitors walking away with a 54-43 victory, the third straight for Nate Glunt and his team this season.
Clearfield (3-1) managed to win the opening stanza, 17-14, but then stumbled in the second quarter as they only managed to put up six. P-O, meanwhile, put up a baker’s dozen to take a four-point lead into the halftime break. But, when the teams emerged from the locker room for the final 16 minutes, Clearfield hit the hardwood tough, and never looked back. Clearfield nearly tripled the output of the Mounties in the third quarter, putting them ahead for good.
Karson Rumsky continued his hot streak in the early part of the season with another 20-point night, while Luke Winters added in an additional 14 points.
Philipsburg-Osceola was led in scoring by Ryan Whitehead, who also had 20 points on the night, while Oliver Harpster accounted for another 10.
After four days of games, and no practice leading up to the start of the season, Clearfield has a day of rest on Sunday before once again getting into game mode. The Bison will be on the road for the third consecutive game come Monday as they will travel to face DuBois, who opened the season with a 76-62 victory over Clearfield on Wednesday.
The varsity tip-off is set for approximately 7:15 p.m.
