CLEARFIELD – With the unrest occurring in the nation’s capital, it is tempting to think that it is not really affecting us here.
But many of our friends and neighbors are becoming part of this turmoil in different ways.
National Guard units are being deployed to keep the peace in Washington, D.C. leading up to the presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.
One of those soldiers comes from the ranks of the Lawrence Township Police Department.
In a conversation with Police Chief Doug Clark, he revealed that one of his officers was deployed to Washington with his National Guard unit recently, and another one may soon get orders to go with his unit as well.
Clark said that the citizens of the township will continue to be well protected.
He said some schedules will need to be adjusted, but all shifts will be fully staffed for the duration of the crisis.
“We are very proud of our officers serving in the National Guard,” Clark said, noting that they serve their country on two fronts, as soldiers and as police officers.
Clark added that he doesn’t know how long the deployments will last, and that he hopes everything calms down soon, and they appreciate the support from the community during this time.
