DUBOIS – This has been a challenging year for many local businesses.
The year started off on a high note for KMA Remarketing® Corp., as it was recognized by the Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development as the 2019 Small Business of the Year.
At the time, current President and Chief Executive Officer Dana Smith accepted the award, which is given based on the criteria of staying power, growth, involvement in the community and contributions on behalf of KMA’s entire staff, the original founding partners, Bill and Betsy Boyle and the co-owners of KMA Remarketing, Ken Allshouse and Smith’s wife, Carol Smith.
Dana commented on how exceptionally busy the company was and how blessed its staff were to continue to expand the business.
Shortly after the awards banquet, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. KMA Remarketing recognized the changes in the healthcare field and utilized its knowledge and abilities to handle its customers’ needs.
KMA Remarketing® prepared and supplied beds, stretchers, monitors, IV poles and other medical equipment to locations throughout the United States to areas hardest hit by the COVID-19 virus, as well as assisted the local regional hospitals with their preparations to combat the virus.
KMA Remarketing® was able to keep all staff employed and continuously working throughout this entire pandemic by implementing safety measures to ensure the health and well-being of all staff.
KMA Remarketing closed the year out with a transfer of power. Dana Smith resigned as president/CEO and Ken Allshouse was nominated as the new president/CEO at KMA’s annual board meeting.
Carol Smith, co-owner and treasurer of the board, also resigned. Dana thanked the board and company for all the loyalty and support he was given to KMA corporately and to him personally over the last 27 years.
Dana commented, “I wish you continued success and prosperity as you forge ahead in this amazing story, we have all written together.”
Carol also thanked everyone for the love and support that was shown to her and her family. Although not as active in the present years, Carol was very active in the business when it first began.
Both Carol and Dana also made many personal sacrifices to get the business up and running and help make it what it is today. The board thanked them both for their service and dedication.
Ken Allshouse, former vice-president, took a moment to honor and thank Dana Smith for his commitment to the company.
Allshouse stated, “Thank you for the courage, strength, foresight and fortitude to start this magnificent company that we see today.
“Many of us have seen the sacrifices that you and your family have made to get us to where we are today. This is an exciting time for you as you begin your next chapter.
“On behalf of the corporation, board of directors, employees and staff, we thank you for your years of unwavering service and dedication.”
Dana Smith will remain with KMA as president/CEO emeritus as ownership of the company is transferred to Ken Allshouse.
KMA Remarketing® continues to be prepared and accustomed to conducting business at the rapid pace necessitated by the demands of the modern health care industry. They look forward to meeting the needs of their customers in 2021.
