CLEARFIELD – A suspected DUI driver caused a head-on crash back in September in Morris Township.
Carol L. Barton, 58, of Morrisdale is charged by Trooper Matthew A. Borden of the Clearfield-based state police with felony aggravated assault by vehicle; two misdemeanor counts of DUI; and four summaries.
Barton waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court. Her bail is set at $10,000 unsecured.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the crash occurred at 4:16 p.m. Sept. 25 along the Kylertown – Drifting Highway when Barton drove off the right side of the roadway.
She reportedly over-corrected and re-entered the roadway, crossing the centerlines into the northbound lane of travel and striking a vehicle operated by a 61-year-old Wallaceton woman head-on.
When state police spoke with Barton at Clearfield Penn Highlands Hospital, a strong odor of alcohol was reportedly emitting from her nose and mouth area. She also admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in the evening.
Both operators sustained moderate to severe injuries as a result of the crash, state police said, and Barton agreed to submit to legal blood draw, which showed her blood-alcohol content was 0.181 percent.
