DUBOIS – A special election will be held next year to fill the position of District Magistrate in DuBois.
The spot became available after long-time District Magistrate Patrick Ford resigned unexpectedly, effective Oct. 15. Ford had reportedly served in the position since 1994.
There are three years remaining on his term that began after he won the 2017 election.
On Monday, Clearfield County Court Administrator F. Cortez “Chip” Bell explained there will be an election next year for a complete six-year period, rather than electing someone to just finish the term.
In the meantime, the other district magistrates in the county, J. Michael Morris, James B. Glass and Jerome M. Nevling will assist with cases coming into the DuBois office.
Luckily the county also has two retired Senior District Judges, Richard Ireland and James Hawkins, available to help, Bell noted.
In 2017, Ford won the primaries on both the Republican and Democratic tickets and was unopposed in the fall election.
This district consists of DuBois City, Sandy Township, Grampian Borough, Troutville Borough, Bloom Township, Brady Township, Huston Township, Penn Township, Pine Township and Union Township.
