DUBOIS – At Monday night’s council meeting, DuBois City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio said he would like the Planning Commission to begin a review of sub-standard lots.
He said these lots – without exemptions – cannot undergo construction under current ordinances and zoning. “… People let them go, and we end up with them.”
Later in the meeting, he said these properties are difficult to sell, making property improvements difficult and so property owners let the structures decay.
Suplizio said the city – historically – has purchased these properties at judicial sales, with Solicitor Toni Cherry adding the solution was “really simple.”
She said council has the power to grant property modifications – such as yard size setbacks – at the request of property owners.
Council also noted that the city’s Halloween parade will take place at 5 p.m. Oct. 31, and trick-or-treat will follow from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
