CLEARFIELD – Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Clearfield Area School District will resume providing free meals to children, said Superintendent Terry Struble at Monday night’s school board meeting.
In August, he said the U.S. Department of Agriculture extended its summer food services program to allow school districts to provide free meals through as late as Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020.
Struble said the district provided the same program this past spring and summer to ensure children had access to nutritious meals throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The program allows the district to provide free breakfasts and lunches to all children, who are 18 years of age and under in the community, on all school days (in-person and remote).
Struble said meals will be available for pickup at the Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High and Elementary Schools. Parents are permitted to pick up these meals without their child(ren) present.
He said the district is asking that parents provide a list with each child’s first and last name as well as age. Meals will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and adult meals will not be available.
Pickup will be at the rear of the CAJSHS near the Bison Gymnasium, from 12:30 p.m. – 12:50 p.m. Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles because meals will be brought out by staff.
Pickup will be on the west side of CAES, from 12:35 p.m. – 12:55 p.m. Struble said parents should enter off Mount Joy Road, pass the first parking area and take the next right.
The door will be on your left, he said, and again parents are asked to remain in their vehicles because meals will be brought out to them by staff. Parents will then exit via High Level Road.
Struble said letters went out to students’ families late last week. The school board will be asked to vote and finalize the district’s participation next week.
