CLEARFIELD – A wanted Osceola Mills man is facing charges for allegedly being in possession of drugs and leaving his four-month-old baby in his vehicle to flee from state police on foot.
Chase C. Conway, 30, is charged by Trooper Jonathan Uren of the Clearfield-based state police with felony manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, endangering the welfare of children and flight to avoid apprehension.
He’s also charged with one count each of misdemeanor use/possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest, plus five summaries.
Conway is incarcerated at Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail, and scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Aug. 12 during centralized court.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, at approximately 4:14 p.m. July 10, Uren was on routine patrol in the area of Walton and West Maple streets in Chester Hill Borough.
While traveling north on Walton Street, he observed a red sedan traveling south with an expired inspection sticker. The trooper turned around and activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop.
The driver, however, made a right onto West Maple Street and went into the Dollar General parking lot without signaling. He reportedly continued traveling through the lot until stopping his vehicle and fleeing on foot.
As the driver exited his vehicle, Uren positively identified the male as Conway. Unable to locate him, the trooper went back to the suspect’s vehicle where customers had found a four-month-old baby in the rear behind the passenger’s seat.
Uren said the baby was crying and he looked for something soothing inside the vehicle. Behind the driver’s seat, he found a box containing a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl and three glass smoking pipes.
Upon further investigation, Uren found that Conway had outstanding warrants and a suspended license.
