CLEARFIELD – There was no quorum for the Clearfield Municipal Authority meeting Tuesday, but the board members who were present reviewed a few items, although no action could be taken.
Manager John Williams gave a statement regarding water issues at the barn fire on Pine Grove Nursery Road Sunday night.
Williams explained that a fire of that size would normally result in the need for water shuttling. In this instance, the rural waterlines are six-inch lines and the hydrant is not a traditional hydrant usually found in town but a flushing hydrant.
He said fire crews were using the nearby hydrant, but a shuttle system had to be set up as well. Meanwhile, CMA responded quickly and turned on the pumps to supply more water to the system during the fire.
Williams also talked about the new billing software he is looking into. The cost would be $18.50 per month, which is less than the authority is currently paying, and will allow them to move to monthly billing.
Currently, there are about 5,500-5,600 customers and there wouldn’t be a price increase unless the authority would reach somewhere around 8,000 customers.
Engineer Jim Balliet reported that the waterline relocation project on Woodland Road is progressing and the notice to proceed for Front Street is Aug.24.
The cost for the front street project was a little higher than the state Department of Transportation anticipated due to increased material costs.
Regarding the acquisition of the borough and township sewer systems, the draft asset transfer agreement has been prepared.
The board discussed briefly the impact of taking on the lines and Williams said he is confident that they are in a good financial position for the takeover.
There are a number of things the authority will have to take care of once the lines have been transferred into CMA’s control.
