DUBOIS – DuBois City Council is moving forward with plans for the construction of a new sewer plant.
On Monday night, council voted to initiate the process of borrowing funding to pay for the next phase, and estimates engineering costs will be approximately $4 million.
According to City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio, the city will use grant funding to repay a portion of the notes.
However, he said a second note would also be taken out for the city’s Water System Improvement Project.
It was noted that council is expected to take a final vote at its meeting Aug. 10.
In other business, council approved the first reading of Council Bill 1948, which would officially close Hope Street between East Park Avenue and Seyler Alley.
Because this section of Hope Street was never constructed, this council action would dissolve the non-existent road and turn the land over to adjacent properties.
Council also asked residents to trim any trees, brush and shrubs that are growing onto roadways over the next few weeks.
If residents fail to perform the trimming work themselves, Suplizio said city workers will and they’re not professional trimmers.
“… Let me put it this way: They won’t be growing back next year if we cut them,” added City Mayor Randy Schmidt.
