CURWENSVILLE – Two ordinances were again on the agenda for Curwensville Borough council, and no action was taken on either at Monday’s meeting.
The ordinances are a revised vacant property ordinance and a blighted and abandoned property ordinance.
Council member and Code Enforcement Officer Tom Carfley said the planning commission is trying to determine the difference between “vacant” and “blighted.”
“It’s a work in progress,” he said.
The council then discussed the property at 414 Thompson St., which the borough recently purchased.
Council President Sara Curulla said they need to make a decision on whether to sell the property, which contains a duplex house, or demolish it.
It was noted that the lot isn’t big enough to build on with current ordinances.
Council member Harriet Carfley said regardless of what is decided, the windows and doors need to be boarded up as it is attracting vandals.
After some discussion, the council voted to advertise for bids to purchase, which will be due by July 13. If no bids are received, they will look into demolishing it.
In other business, council:
- approved allowing a resident to have five chickens on Anderson Street.
- approved a farmers’ market to be set up in Arnoldtown, but tabled discussion on providing electricity.
