Clearfield County’s 2020 Primary Election Results

CLEARFIELD – Tuesday was the Primary Election in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The election was originally scheduled for April 28 but was delayed several weeks due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to the Clearfield County Election Central Web site, the county has 40,654 total registered voters. Of those, 15,114 are registered Democrat and 25,540 are registered Republican.

In Tuesday’s election, 17,627 ballots were cast with 6,059 being Democrat and 11,568 being Republican. Total voter turnout was 43.36 percent with it being 40.09 percent and 45.29 percent among Democrats and Republicans, respectively.

Voters decided their candidates for U.S. President and Congress, as well as Pennsylvania Attorney General, Auditor General and Treasurer and state house and senate.

There were a pair of contested state senate and house races on the Republican side of the ballot. For the 25th Senatorial District, county voters supported John “Herm” Suplizio over current Senator Cris Dush.

However, it was Dush, who had convincing district-wide support with 19,939 votes over Suplizio’s 9,795 votes.  Margie Brown was the only Democratic candidate appearing on the ballot.

The 25th district covers part of Clearfield County consisting of the city of DuBois and the townships of Brady, Huston and Sandy and the boroughs of Falls Creek (Clearfield County portion) and Troutville.

It also covers all of Cameron County; all of Clinton County; all of Elk County; all of Jefferson County; all of McKean County; all of Potter County; and all of Tioga County.

For the state’s 75th Legislative District, the county’s Republican voters supported Lisa A. Labrasca Becker, who received 3,932 votes in Clearfield and Elk counties to upend Mike Armanini by a 163-vote margin.  Ryan S. Grimm was the only Democratic candidate.

Several candidates also appeared on the ballot for auditor general on the Democratic side, and Clearfield County supported H. Scott Conklin; however, opponent Michael Lamb was in the lead at press time with 91.04 percent of districts reporting state-wide.

Nilofer Nina Ahmad was in second, Christina Hartman in third and Conklin in fourth.  Timothy Defoor was the only Republican candidate for auditor general.

Absentee and mail-in ballots are included, and all results are unofficial until certified by the Clearfield County Board of Elections. There results also don’t reflect total write-in votes, which will be available at a later date.
