DUBOIS – Sandy Township is aiming to hold a public hearing regarding the Kiwanis Trail sewer extension in mid-July.
The hearing will be held July 13 at the Oklahoma Fire Co., the supervisors announced at Monday night’s meeting.
Citizens who cannot attend or prefer not to will have options to participate in the hearing in a virtual setting or via conference call.
Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh said to help reduce project costs, the supervisors will request that DuBois City waive its requirement for the installation of flow meters.
Originally, plans included the installation of flow meters where the Sandy Township and DuBois City systems meet in order to provide the city with more accurate flow measurements.
The city made this a requirement largely because of the inflow and infiltration of stormwater into the sewage system. Arbaugh said the meters were expected to cost about $300,000.
Supervisor Mark Sullivan asked Arbaugh if he actually intended to request to postpone the meter installation.
Arbaugh said, no that he planned to ask for the city to withdraw this requirement altogether, noting a mobile solution could be used as necessary.
He said Sandy Township has had work done to correct its inflow and infiltration issues, and he hoped the city would be willing to grant his request.
Arbaugh said the city may not agree since their joint sewer agreement was a “fresh deal.”
Supervisor Jim Jeffers said he was very optimistic because the city was aware of the I&I work done, plus the two municipalities had a “great rapport.”
Phase 1 would consist of the main lines and make Kiwanis Trail “pave-able” sooner. Phase 2 and 3 would expand the side streets and the final phase would be construction of a pump station.
