CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners on Tuesday awarded the bids for a pair of bridge projects pending final approval from the county solicitor and engineer.
The commissioners awarded the lowest bid for the McGees Mills Bridge roof replacement project to 768-ROOF in the amount of $119,140.
If this roofing project would require masonry re-pointing, it was noted that there would be an additional cost of $8,800.
The commissioners also awarded the lowest bid for rehabilitation work to the Camp Corbly Bridge to Lycoming Supply in the amount of $80,726. Because this bid was substantially lower than the others, the commissioners said it will be carefully reviewed by the solicitor and engineer.
In other business, the commissioners:
- approved the temporary relocation of the Clearfield Borough, Second Ward Election Precinct, from the Henry E. Meyer Towers to the St. Francis School Cafeteria. Solicitor Heather Bozovich said mailers would be sent out to the affected voters, and the commissioners noted the appropriate signage would be in place Election Day.
- approved a polling place lease with Burnside Christian Missionary and Alliance Church. The county previously approved to temporarily relocate the polling place from the Burnside United Methodist Church to the Burnside CMA Church for the Primary Election on June 2. The commissioners noted the change is being made because Burnside UMC was recently damaged in a fire, and this is in effect for the Primary Election only.
- approved an amendment to the citizen participation plan for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) and Emergency Shelter/Solutions Grant (ESG) to comply with the federal CARES Act. It allows for opportunities to amend or temporarily revise the citizen’s participation process in response to allowances granted by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) in the event of new funding with differing requirements or emergency declarations so long as national or local health authorities recommend social distancing and limited public avenues. Under the amendment, citizens must be provided with reasonable notice and opportunity to comment of no less than five calendar days. Approval of this amendment was required prior to the creation of virtual public hearings to fulfill applicable hearing requirements for these federal funds. For any hearing held virtually, there should be reasonable notice and access to citizens and timely responses from local officials to all citizens’ questions and issues. There should also be public access to all questions and responses.
- proclaimed May as Community Action Month in Clearfield County at the request of Central Pennsylvania Community Action Inc. (CPCA).
- proclaimed May 6-12 as Nurses Week.
- approved liquid fuel allocations to Ramey Borough, $3,000; Penn Township, $4,617.31; Morris Township, $4,510.89; and Covington Township, $3,696.08.
- approved three new hires, one employee transfer and two employee separations/retirements.
- approved the minutes from the April 28 meeting as presented by the chief clerk.
- approved the bills as presented by the Controller’s office.
