CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield woman found dead after a house explosion and fire back in October was a homicide victim, says Clearfield County Coroner Kim Shaffer Snyder.

According to previously-published GANT News reports, human remains were found in a building destroyed by an explosion and fire on the morning of Friday, Oct. 4, 2019 at 327. E. Market St., Clearfield.

Shaffer Snyder confirmed Tuesday morning that the victim, Shanna Carlson, 34, died from “penetrating wounds to the head and right lung due to an explosive device.” The case has been ruled a homicide, she said.

Shaffer Snyder said the investigation is currently ongoing between the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit, ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms), Pennsylvania Attorney General, U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Clearfield County Coroner’s Office.

The building, which housed several apartments, was completely destroyed and those living there lost everything, according to previous reports.
