CLEARFIELD – Several items of business were discussed by the Lawrence Township Supervisors on Tuesday.
The supervisors approved purchase of a 2005 bucket truck with a 47-foot boom. The cost is $16,000 but the seller agreed to take the township’s 1995 truck for $2,000, making the cost $14,000. Roadmaster Ron Woodling priced trucks of a similar age and found they were between $18,900 and $26,500.
Woodling also said with the regular freeze/thaw cycle this winter, the roads have been suffering. He said all the dirt roads have pot holes and the crew is doing its best to get them filled.
Secretary Barbara Shaffner reported that 24 streetlights would be upgraded to LED lights through a Penelec grant. The township is still looking into the lighting situation at the intersection by the Clearfield Mall.
The supervisors approved the road crew returning to four 10-hour work days through the summer, beginning April 6 where they will work 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. On May 4, the hours will change to 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until October.
Supervisor Randy Powell noted that the township is once again responsible for maintenance at Crown Crest Cemetery. The supervisors approved purchase of a new lawnmower and two weed-eaters from Shugarts Lawn and Garden for a total cost of $5,693.
Powell noted the mower initially cost $9,000 but the dealer lowered the price. The money will come out of the maintenance fund for the cemetery.
The supervisors also learned that the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center’s masonry, carpentry and electrical classes will be helping with renovations at the new building.
