DUBOIS — For the third time this season the Curwensville Golden Tide wrestling team had to face the Johnsonburg Rams. And for the third time, the results was pretty much the same.
Unfortunately this time being defeated by the Rams, by a 54-24 score, was at the District 9 AA Team Wrestling Championship at DuBois Area High School on Saturday.
The Tide lost 48-30 to Johnsonburg at the Ridgway duals, then 54-16 in the dual meet at Johnsburg.
The match on Saturday started at 152 and the Tide was down 12-0 after two matches and less than two minutes of mat time. The Tide never really recovered, but closed the gap at one point to 24-18 after Jake McCracken at 170 raised his record to 20-6 with a fall and Gage Roos (9-13) at 220 and Brennen Moore (15-9) at 285 received back-to-back forfeits.
The only other Tide winner was Zach Holland at 138 with a fall that kept his undefeated senior season intact at 25-0.
Johnsonburg almost pulled off an upset in the semifinals, coming down to the last bout in a 40-30 loss to number one seed Brookville. Brookville then defeated Port Allegany 39-33 to take the AA team title and will noe represent District 9 in the PIAA Team Wrestling Championships.
Curwensville (10-9) now has two matches left before the individual post season begins. The first one being on Wednesday when they travel to Moshannon Valley to face the out-numbered Black Nights.
