BELLEFONTE – The Lady Red Raiders of Bellefonte utilized a fast first quarter start to stop the Clearfield Lady Bison Wednesday night, in Bellefonte, 60-38, in Mountain League play.
Bellefonte (5-9) overall, improved to 3-4 in league action while the Lady Bison slipped to 1-6 in the Mountain League and 2-11 on the year.
The Lady Red Raiders jumped out to an early 8-0 lead before Olivia Bender of Clearfield hit a basket with 2:30 to play in the first as Bellefonte went on to take a 17-4 margin into the second quarter.
The Lady Bison did find its offense in the second, scoring 16 points but allowed the Lady Red Raiders 24 tallies to take a sizeable halftime edge at 41-20.
Clearfield couldn’t cut into the Bellefonte lead in the third frame and at one point late in the third eight minutes the Lady Red Raiders widened the gap to 52-24.
The Lady Bison did gain a measure of success in the fourth, outscoring Bellefonte 11-8.
Emma Hipps and Olivia Bender each had 10 points for Clearfield while Bellefonte had two girls in double figures as Maddie Tice had 15 points and Sara DeHaas added 14.
Bellefonte won the junior varsity game, defeating the Lady Bison 41-25. Lauryn Kitchen had 10 points for Clearfield.
The Lady Bison will be on the road again Friday night in another Mountain League contest when they travel to Bald Eagle Area. The varsity game will tip off at 6:30 pm. There will be no JV game.
In December the Lady Bison lost to the Lady Eagles at home 47-38.
