BROCKWAY — The start of the new year for Bob Desmett and the Curwensville Lady Tide meant trying to erase how 2019 ended, with a stunning loss to Clearfield that was expected to be a much closer contest. In order to do so, it meant starting with an Allegehney Mountain League South Division contest on the road against the Lady Rovers of Brockway.
That hope suddenly was erased as the Lady Rovers (4-5) overwhelmed the visiting Lady Tide for all 32 minutes, dominating in a 63-21 contest that ended with a running clock.
Curwensville found itself battling from behind right from the opening tip, as Brockway went on a roll in the first eight minutes to take a 21-4 lead, then continued the momentum into the second quarter. By halftime, Curwensville found itself in a deep 39-10 hole, one that they never could get out. For the visitors, Alyssa Bakaysa led in scoring with seven points, but the team only managed to make nine shots from the floor, and finished only 2-for-6 from the free throw line.
The lone quarter where Curwensville kept it close was in the third, as they held the home squad to just eight points, but only managed to score five themselves.
Brockway was led in scoring by Danielle Wood with 20 points, while Morgan Lindemuth added in another 14 for the Lady Rovers.
Curwensville did not handle the junior varsity game well either, falling in a 24-3 rout.
There’s no time to rest as Curwensville (2-5) is on the road on Monday against West Branch. The Lady Warriors won the first contest between the teams, 37-34, back on December 9. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. tip as there will be no junior varsity contest.
