HYDE – In perhaps the first athletic ever event between Otto-Eldred and Clearfield, the Bison dumped the Terrors Friday night in boys basketball 65-40 on Clearfield’s home court. The win upped the Bison record to 5-3 on the year, while Otto-Eldred dropped to 5-3 with the loss.
Otto-Eldred, from Duke Center, near Bradford, made a game of it in the opening quarter, trailing the Bison by just three, 16-13, heading into the second eight minutes.
With the score tied at 10 each, Bison senior Cade Walker hit a bucket followed by a free throw to give Clearfield a 13-10 edge with 2:40 to play in the first. It was a lead Clearfield would not surrender the rest of the game.
Terror junior Zaz Bell did pull his team to within one point, 16-15, with a bucket early in the second before the Bison pulled away to a 30-21 halftime margin.
Bison head coach Nate Glunt said afterwards, “Otto-Eldred is a good team. They executed very well, shot the ball well and moved the ball well. They are well coached. On defense they were very active in their zone, always moving and using their hands to try and disrupt our offense.”
Clearfield’s best offensive quarter was in the third, outscoring Otto-Eldred 19-10, to take a sizeable 49-31 lead heading into the final period.
The Terrors could never crawl back into the battle as the Bison took the fourth quarter also, 16-9.
Clearfield had four players in double figures with Karson Rumsky dumping in 18 followed by Cade Walker with 17, freshman Cole Miller with 11 and Matt Pallo adding 10 in the balanced offensive attack.
Rumsky had four threes, with Miller dropping in three from outside the three point line.
Sebastian Cole was high scorer for the Terrors with 13 tallies.
The Bison also came away with a victory in the junior varsity game, topping the Terrors by a score of 57-17 with Nasheed Thompson hitting for a game high 17 points for Clearfield.
Glunt then spoke about his squad, saying, “I thought we played with great energy tonight. We did a good job of dribble penetration and shot the ball much better in this game. And this team is certainly battle tested since we have played six of our first eight games on the road.”
Next up for the Bison will be a Tuesday home game against Mountain League opponent Penns Valley. The JV game starts at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
