PHILIPSBURG – For the Curwensville Golden Tide boys basketball team the final game of the 2019 year at Philipsburg-Osceola on Friday night ended with the Mounties knocking off the Tide by a score of 76-34.
The first eight minutes told the story on this night, as the Mounties cruised to a 31-3 lead going into the second eight minutes.
After that Philipsburg-Osceola did what it needed to do get the victory, outscoring Curwensville 19-9 in the second quarter and 13-9 in the fourth. The third stanza was a 13-13 draw.
Jake Terry had 23 points that included seven three pointers.
Ryan Whitehead of the Mounties led all scorers on the night with 25 points. Teammates Parker Matson tossed in 11 tallies while Kyle Hatten added 10.
The Mounties also won the junior varsity contest, defeating the Tide 48-35. Jayson Rowles had 14 points and Tyler Lee added 13 for Curwensville.
The Golden Tide (1-4) now face another week long layoff, not playing until next Friday at Patton Hall when they host the Rovers of Brockway. JV action starts at 6 pm with the varsity game tipping off at 7:30 pm.
