CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Police Department will step up enforcement on Mount Joy Road.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Lawrence Township Supervisors discussed speeding issues on Mount Joy Road, near Moyer’s Auto Body.
At previous meetings, the supervisors discussed what to do to address the issue. The supervisors voted to send a letter to the Clearfield Area Elementary School telling administrators the speed limit on the road will remain the same.
Solicitor James Naddeo said when the lights on the school zone sign are flashing, they override the speed limit signs.
The supervisors asked Police Chief Doug Clark if he could send officers over to enforce the speed limit, particularly when the lights are flashing.
Also, at the meeting, the supervisors voted to approve splitting the money received from the sale of the sewer camera truck between the township, Clearfield Borough and the Clearfield Municipal Authority.
However, Secretary Barb Shaffner said CMA has not paid the township for their use of the truck.
She said while all three entities had entered into a contract to share costs and usage when the truck was purchased, CMA said they “wanted out of the contract” and haven’t paid any of the invoices the township sent.
The supervisors approved splitting the money, but taking what CMA owed the township out of their portion of the money.
In other business, the supervisors recognized Dan Mitchell for his years of service on the board.
Mitchell was defeated in November’s election by candidate Brian Collins. The supervisors then voted to pay the bills in the amount of $100,071.68.
