CURWENSVILLE – For the second time in four days the Curwensville High School wrestling squad downed the Ridgway Elkers, this time on the Golden Tide mat in Patton Hall, on Tuesday night by a score of 48-21.
Last Saturday the Golden Tide competed in the Ridgway duals and knocked off the Elkers 45-15.
After no bout to start the dual meet at 113 pounds, the Tide picked up back to back forfeits, one at 120 by Caleb Stiles and the other by Nik Fegert at 126 to jump out to a 12-0 lead.
Ridgway tied the score at 12 apiece with consecutive pins at 132 and 138.
Sophomore Zach Shaffer at 145 put the Golden Tide in front for good with a pin over Armandt Rosario in 1:33 to make it 18-12 in favor of the Tide.
Winning the next four bouts, Curwensville put some distance between them and the Elkers, taking a commanding 36-12 edge.
First it was Zach Holland with a hard fought 3-1 decision over Ridgway‘s Jacob Wickett at 152, followed by Adam Straw’s 7-2 decision over Hunter Wall of the Elkers at 160 pounds.
The Golden Tide then picked up falls at 170 and 182 as Jake McCracken pinned Joe Miller in just 1:32 while teammate Duane Brady then recorded a fall in 2:33 against Edward Switzer making the score at that time 36-12 in favor of Curwensville.
The last contested bout of the night went to Valdemar Kranz of the Elkers who won a 6-2 decision at 195.
The Tide received forfeits at 220 and 106 while Ridgway’s last points came by forfeit at 285.
On the night the Golden Tide had three pins, four forfeits and two decisions.
Curwensville also won the junior high match, stomping Ridgway 66-10.
The Tide, now 3-4 on the year, are off until Saturday when they travel to Redbank Valley to compete in the Redbank Duals that start at 9 am.
