RIDGWAY – The Curwensville High School Wrestling Team traveled to Ridgway on Saturday to compete in the annual dual meet tourney, where they finished 2-3 on the day.
The Ridgway Duals gets every wrestler five matches, so it’s a good time to get experience. Head Coach Dean Swatsworth said he prefers duals tournies because much of his team doesn’t have a lot of experience and going to a tournament would put most of them on the bench after just a few matches. This way, he feels they get more experience and have a better day.
Curwensville ended up wrestling Ridgway, Northern Bedford County, Sharpsville, Johnsonburg, and Titusville. They picked up wins over Ridgway and Sharpsville.
Leading the way for the team were senior Zach Holland (5-0), junior Jake McCracken (6-0) and sophomore Jacob Carfley (5-1). All three wrestlers went 5-0 on the day.
Holland had a pin, tech fall, two decisions and a forfeit, wrestling between 145 and 152 pounds.
McCracken went undefeated with four pins and a decision.
Carfley received three forfeits, but pinned both of his other opponents to give his team 30 team points on the day. Each pin is worth six team points, as is a forfeit.
Curwensville will wrestle Ridgway again on Tuesday, where an anticipated win will give them a 3-4 record.
