DUBOIS – Letters regarding Nextdoor.com have circulated among residents in Sandy Township, and prompted police to issue a special news release Friday afternoon.
Police say the letter advises residents their neighborhood is using Nextdoor, and encourages them to join. Residents are referred to a webpage and provided with a code that expires in seven days.
According to its official Web site, Nextdoor is the world’s largest social network for the neighborhood that’s both private and free to sign up.
According to its Web site, the company is based in San Francisco, Calif., and over 207,000 neighborhoods across the country use Nextdoor.
“Nextdoor is the best way to stay informed about what’s going on in your neighborhood—whether it’s finding a last-minute babysitter, planning a local event or sharing safety tips.”
Police are advising residents that this webpage and information collection is not endorsed by the township. Residents are urged to be cautious with the provision of any personal information.
