CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Borough Police Department and the Curwensville Borough Council have both accepted the terms for a three-year contract.
At Monday’s meeting, the council voted to accept the agreement and said the police department has also agreed. The department consists of two, full-time officers and a School Resource Officer.
The contract reflects an increase in salary of $1.25 per hour for the first year, $0.75 per hour for the second year and $0.75 per hour for the third year.
The contract also drops the officers’ health care to single coverage. However, the officers can add family members, if they pay the additional costs.
Corporal Joe Witherite said the department has also entered into an agreement with the Lawrence Township and Clearfield Borough police departments regarding instrument calibration.
Witherite said the company who calibrates the instruments is increasing the costs to come to the borough. There will be a fee of $150, plus the cost to perform the calibration.
Witherite said the three departments will rotate who hosts the company. He said one visit will be hosted by Clearfield, one will be hosted by Lawrence Township and the third visit will be hosted by Curwensville.
He said the host department will pay the $150, while the other departments will just pay the cost for the calibration, saving all three departments money.
Also, at the meeting, council member Harriet Carfley said the borough had spoken with Josiah Jones of Visit Clearfield County regarding grants to help improve Irvin Park.
Carfley said there is a lot of funding available, which would not require matching funding. Carfley said the borough could be eligible due to the recent work they have been doing on the all-inclusive playground and the boat launch.
Carfley said the grants could provide funding for all-inclusive fishing access and other amenities. The council passed a motion to allow Carfley to continue to pursue the grants.
In other business, the council voted to pay the bills for November in the amount of $12,633.79.
