Lady Bison Fall to North Clarion to Start Season

BROOKVILLE — All the summer leagues, the pre-season workouts, and the practices leading up to the start of a new campaign came to a conclusion on Friday as the Lady Bison of Clearfield took to the hardwood for the start of their 2019-2020 season.

Clearfield’s opening game of the year came as the first of a two-game stanza in Brookville on Friday afternoon as part of the Brookville Tip-Off Tournament against the North Clarion She-Wolves.

On opening night, the Lady Bison fell behind early, and had no answer as North Clarion dominated from opening tip to final whistle, 44-8.

The press defense from North Clarion was overwhelming for the Lady Bison, who committed 27 turnovers in the game, 23 of them in the first half.  Clearfield was held to just two points in the first 16 minutes, only accounting for two points from a pair of free throws.

Head coach Joey Castagnolo was at a loss for words after the game, stating, “I can’t even say anything.”

The She-Wolves held a 31-2 advantage entering the third quarter, and put the Mercy Rule into effect during that time.

Megan Durandetta managed one three-point shot in the second half, as she led the Lady Bison in scoring, while Tesa Miller accounted for nine boards.  For North Clarion, Mackenzie Bauer led all scoring with 13 points, while Gabby Schmander added in another ten.

Clearfield starts the year 0-1 for the third consecutive season, and heads into Saturday’s tournament Consolation game against Clarion-Limestone.  That game will tip-off at 2 p.m., while the championship contest between North Clarion and Brookville will tip off at 4 p.m.
