CLEARFIELD – Once again, the Clearfield Borough Police Department has teamed up with the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. to present the Giving Tree.
The Giving Tree is an opportunity for residents of Clearfield County to reach out and help senior citizens during the Christmas season.
Trees are located at Clearfield Pharmacy & Gift Shoppe and CVS Pharmacy, and are filled with tags of gift suggestions for area seniors. Participants can pick a tag, purchase gifts and bring them to CCAAA or the police station.
On Thursday Officer Nathan Curry spoke to Clearfield Borough Council about the event, noting that every year they are overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.
This year there is going to be something different added to the event, Curry said. He explained that every week the Clearfield Ministerium packs 276 backpacks with food for students to take home every weekend.
So, as part of the Giving Tree event, he said there will be different tags with suggestions for items that can be donated for that effort as well.
Curry said it is an opportunity to teach kids about generosity and to let them participate in helping others of their age.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott also reminded council of holiday events taking place Dec. 7. She said the day will kick off with a matinee movie at the Ritz Theater.
At 3 p.m., she said the Clearfield YMCA Christmas Parade will kick off, bringing Santa Claus into town.
After the parade will be the tree lighting ceremony with school bands, community choir and St. Francis School students also singing.
Santa will also be at the YMCA visiting with children. That evening, Stott said Santa and the fire department will travel through neighborhoods to meet and greet children and families.
