WOMEN’S SOCCER
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Sophomore goalkeeper Madi Jones (Clearfield) logged the win in her first official start of the season as Penn State Behrend defeated Washington & Jefferson 4-2 in non-conference action Saturday.
She faced only three shots, with both of the host’s goal coming in the final 11 minutes.
Jones was in goal last Wednesday when the Lions’ home game against Mount Union (Ohio) was cancelled because of weather after less than five minutes.
The Lions had been shut out in their first four outings.

INDIANA — Freshman Alayna Ryan (Clearfield) recorded a shot on goal for Indiana University of Pennsylvania in both Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games last week, a 3-1 win over California Wednesday and a 2-1 loss at Edinboro Saturday.
She has one assist and four total shots for the 2-1 Crimson Hawks.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
LATROBE — Freshman Abby LaBorde (Clearfield) ran her first 5K for Geneva in 20:24 to finish fifth and help the Golden Tornadoes win the Saint Vincent Invitational Saturday.
She was one of three Golden Tornadoes in the top five as Elly McGillivray won the race in 19:27 and Jessie Taylor placed third in 20:10. Both are sophomores.
Geneva, a Division III team, registered 35 points to beat out Division I Duquesne (47), with Division II Clarion (84) and Division I St. Francis (115) claiming the next two places in the 12-team race that had 99 runners.

FOOTBALL
CLARION — Senior linebacker Christian Rumery (Clearfield) assisted on one stop for Lock Haven in Saturday’s 48-20 non-conference loss to Clarion with 2,068 fans in the Memorial Stadium stands.
He has one solo tackle and two assists for the 1-1 Bald Eagles.

CO-ED GOLF
DUBOIS — Senior Brandon Orsich (Clearfield) posted an 89 at the DuBois Country Club Monday, Sept. 9, as Penn State DuBois placed fifth in its six-team home invitational tournament with a score of 359.
He finished tied for 22th among the 37 players who teed off.
Pitt-Bradford won the team title handily with a 303, 19 strokes better than runner-up Kent State Tuscarawas.
Freshman Hannah Hoover (Curwensville) turned in a 102, her best score of the fall, as the shorthanded Penn State DuBois team wound up fifth in the Penn State Fayette Invitational at the Uniontown Country Club Saturday.
She had the second-highest women’s total.
The Lions’ score soared to 398 in the six-team tourney won by Penn State Lehigh Valley with a 323.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
ERIE — Freshman Jeremiah Vezza (Clearfield) began his Edinboro career by running in the Doug Watts Open hosted at Edinboro Sept. 7 and the Division II/III Challenge at Kutztown Saturday.
His times for the 8K courses were 29:30 and 31:32.5.
The Golden Knights were second with 70 points in the eight-team Doug Watts Open and seventh with 198 points in the Division II/III Challenge that drew 13 teams.
