CLEARFIELD – Updates on two new police vehicles and Crown Crest Cemetery were discussed at the Lawrence Township Supervisor’s meeting Tuesday.
The township recently ordered two police vehicles. One is being replaced as part of the regular rotation, and the other replaces a vehicle totaled in an accident.
The Ford Explorer should arrive at the end of the week, according to Police Chief Doug Clark. It will then be taken to be outfitted as a police cruiser. The Dodge Charger, however, is another matter.
The township ordered a 2019 Dodge Charger from C. Classic Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep in Clearfield. The supervisors first learned that Dodge only produces the police vehicles in groups of 10, and they don’t send them out until all 10 are ready to go.
The other issue, however, is that the vehicle was not purchased under COSTARS. COSTARS allows municipalities to purchase vehicles and equipment without bidding.
Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner informed the other supervisors that C. Classic is not a COSTARS vendor and they would either need to find a way to purchase the vehicle through COSTARS or bid it.
After some discussion, the supervisors realized that the easiest thing to do is advertise for bids for the vehicle and move on from there.
Clark also reported that the officers are using their new police radios and also have qualified on their new sidearms.
Clark said they were able to replace all of the sidearms with Glock 45 caliber pistols thanks to a generous donation from Don Shaw, adding that their old pistols were nearing the end of their useful life.
Solicitor James Naddeo gave a brief update on Crown Crest Cemetery. Recently a hearing was held and the cemetery was officially declared abandoned.
Naddeo said the judge then appointed a committee to find someone to act as receiver for the cemetery, a position which would operate the cemetery in the interim.
Naddeo said two people have spoken to him about the position and he hopes to have someone appointed as receiver soon.
