RIDGWAY TOWNSHIP – A local man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges following a gun incident and short pursuit in Ridgway Township.
Ridgway-based state police say a call was received for shots fired from a vehicle near the Sandy Beach Park at approximately 8:10 p.m. Wednesday.
Three troopers ordered the driver of a white Cadillac CTS to stop; however, he reportedly refused and a pursuit ensued. Following several traffic violations, he stopped his vehicle and fled on foot.
The male, identified as 40-year-old Adam G. Jones of Ridgway, was apprehended a short distance later. He was transported to Penn Highlands Elk for suspicion of DUI.
Upon investigation, it was learned Jones had thrown a handgun out the window of his vehicle. State police say due to prior felony convictions, he’s not legally permitted to possess a firearm.
Online court records indicate that Jones was arraigned at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge James L. Martin. Unable to post $25,000 bail, he was housed in Elk County Prison.
He’s been charged by Trooper Richard J. Krug with felony possession of firearm prohibited and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer (two counts).
He’s also been charged with misdemeanor marijuana-small amount personal use, DUI (five counts), recklessly endangering another person (two counts), resisting arrest and eight summaries.
Jones is currently scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on the charges at 11:15 a.m. Aug. 28 before Martin.
