CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Council has received a letter of request from Sheetz Inc. for approval of an inter-municipal transfer of a restaurant liquor license purchased at auction.
At Thursday night’s committee meetings, Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said she has been in contact with the attorney for Sheetz and has asked for a more complete plan on what the company has in mind.
Sheetz is intending to renovate the store and include a beer cave and restaurant seating for 30. Stott said she has questions about the proposal, however.
The current building is landlocked and she questioned how they would find room for the beer cave and seating, noting that parking is already an issue at the location.
If the company is planning to or has purchased property, council is not aware of it. Also, there are two alleys they would have to deal with. One thought during discussion was that Sheetz could be planning on a two-story structure.
Council member Jim Kling noted there is already a problem with traffic at the location, with vehicles making left-hand turns from Front Street into Sheetz, instead of turning onto Nichols Street and then into the parking lot. Vehicles also make illegal left-hand turns from the parking lot onto Front Street, despite signage.
Council will be asking for additional information from Sheetz. According to the 2017 ordinance, the borough must hold a public hearing before deciding on approval of the transfer.
At the end of the meeting, the council members agreed to move the time for next week’s meeting to 6 p.m. due to conflicts of time by several council members.
