CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors held a short meeting Tuesday night and touched on several items.
Solicitor Linda Lewis reported that she and Solicitor James Naddeo are working on documents to file for tax appeal on the Bayer Building by Sept. 1. The township owns the building and rents a portion of it, and that portion is subject to property taxes.
Recently, the supervisors voted to advertise the building for sale. The supervisors explained that they feel the assessment on the building is too high and are filing an appeal in order to have the taxes reduced prior to selling.
The building is approximately 90,000 square feet and a little less than half is rented.
Under the secretary’s report, the supervisors learned that grants for Industrial Park Road and Turnpike Avenue have been submitted.
Also, the supervisors voted to rescind the vote from last month to purchase the 2013 Hitachi excavator, as the amount was incorrect. Instead, they voted to lease the excavator up to July 15.
Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner noted there has been a problem getting the old Web site to automatically direct to the new Web site. He said he and the administrator for the old site are working on the issue and hope to have some resolution soon.
Police Chief Doug Clark gave the statistics report for June. He said there were a total of 946 incidents with 161 traffic stops, 50 warrants served, 80 criminal arrests with 12 of those DUI and eight drug-related; 170 traffic citations were issued and there were 10 reported vehicle accidents.
