DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Supervisors addressed back-up generation for the Slab Run pump station at their regular meeting on Monday night.
As recommended, the supervisors voted to approve the purchase of a back-up generator for Slab Run’s pump station treatment facility.
According to Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh, recent power outages and brown outs have led to this site being at-risk for accidentally releasing sewage into area streams and homes.
Arbaugh said he’d obtained a quote totaling $12,950 for a generator, which can operate on either natural gas or propane.
The township plans to have a natural gas line installed for the generator, so long as easements allow for this to occur at an estimated cost of $2,000.
However, if the previous option isn’t possible, the supervisors have also approved an alternative, which would be the purchase of a 300-gallon propane tank for $1,000.
Police Chief Kris Kruzelak thanked community members who have made donations to the department. Plaques were made to present to these individuals as an expression of gratitude.
The Wiberg family was presented with their plaque during the meeting. Others for a Wal-Mart donation and to private individuals will be presented in person, as well.
Kruzelak said the Wiberg’s donation helped with costs related to tactical vests and Wal-Mart’s with the replacement of a malfunctioning Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Also, on Monday night, Kruzelak reported that the police department had completed its accreditation inspection.
Supervisor Jim Jeffers congratulated Kruzelak on his promotion to police chief since he was absent from the previous meeting.
As a past police chief, Jeffers stressed the importance of the chief’s role in the local community. He said Kruzelak will be the face of the police department and Sandy Township.
