STATE COLLEGE – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued an update on its cable median barrier installation project along more than 13 miles of roadway in Centre, Clinton, Mifflin and Juniata counties.
The project will enhance safety for motorists and reduce the potential for head-on collisions on high-volume traffic routes.
During the week of July 1, crews will continue excavation of the median, installation of reinforcement bars and pouring concrete for the median barriers on Interstate 99 and Route 322 in Centre County.
The contractor will not be working on Thursday, July 4, or Friday, July 5, in observance of the holiday.
Motorists will encounter short-term closures of the left (passing) lane on I-99 northbound between the Shiloh Road and Bellefonte exits and on I-99 southbound between the Bellefonte and Shiloh Road exits in Centre County.
The contractor will be implementing a long-term closure of the left (passing) lane on Route 322 eastbound approximately half a mile past the State College/College Avenue exit.
This long-term closure will be implemented on Monday, July 1, and will be removed by 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 3.
As work progresses, any closures that are still active on Fridays will be lifted at noon that day. PennDOT will issue updates on this project as work locations change.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. Inc. is the contractor for the $3.3 million median barrier project, which is expected to finish by mid-December. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
