Friday, June 21
DiscoverE: Hide-N-Seekers:
2 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
Age Requirement: 4-5 years-old
Join us as we discover our senses and learn about wildlife and how they use their senses to survive in nature. Games, crafts, and other activities are a part of this summer-long program series. Check at the Park Office for more info.
Nature Nut—Bats:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Come and spend a half hour learning about bats with John Acorn, Nature Nut (video). What do bats do for you and why are they in trouble in the US?
Saturday, June 22 – Great American Campout Day
Setting Up Camp:
10 a.m. – outside Park Office
Not quite sure how to set up a tent, or what alternatives you have for shelter? Don’t let that stop you from camping. Come learn these and other skills necessary to get outdoors and camp.
Simple Camp Cooking:
2 p.m. – outside Park Office
You don’t have to prepare steak in order to eat well while camping. Learn some simple ways to keep meal prep, cooking, and clean-up easy.
Log Drive:
3 p.m. – Beach
In the days before log trucks and skidders, how did folks move timber to the sawmills? Water. Come to the beach and bring your beach buckets to help with this model log drive.
Matchless Fire:
8 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Learn how folks started fires before matches or lighters. Fire by friction, flint and steel, and fire by compression will all be explored.
Sunday, June 23
Tea and Talk:
7 p.m. – Beach House steps
Bring your own cup to sample some sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown right here in the park. Talk is whatever interests you about the environment. The Sunday evening tea and talk has been going on for many years—come be a part of the tradition.
