PENFIELD – Staff members have announced the program schedule for June 7-9 at the Parker Dam State Park.
Friday, June 7
DiscoverE: Hide-N-Seekers:
2 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
Age Requirement: 4-5 years-old
Join us as we discover our senses and learn about wildlife and how they use their senses to survive in nature. Games, crafts, and other activities are a part of this summer-long program series. Check at the Park Office for more info.
Nature Nut—Digger Wasps:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Come and spend a half hour learning about digger wasps in a fun and quirky way. And yes, we have digger wasps living in the park.
Saturday, June 8 – National Get Outdoors Day
Kayak Basics:
10 a.m. – behind Beach House
$3 fee per participant; pre-registrations accepted.
Learn the basics and enjoyment of kayaking on National Get Outdoors Day during this intro level program. A limited number of kayaks will be available, including tandems. Pre-register at the Park Office, or by calling (814) 765-0630.
GPS Basics:
2 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
On National Get Outdoors day, a good skill to learn might be how to navigate the landscape. You can do just that and more using a hand-held GPS receiver. Come learn the basics of using just such a device.
Hawks at the Beach:
3 p.m. – near Beach House
Come and learn about the hawks that live in Pennsylvania. How they find, and catch, their food, how to identify the different kinds, etc.
Raptor Force:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Armed with powerful beaks and razor-sharp talon, raptors are nature’s elite killing force. Dramatic original footage from cameras mounted on their backs shows why these birds are masters of the sky.
Sunday, June 9
Tea and Talk:
7 p.m. – Beach House steps
Bring your own cup to sample some sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown right here in the park. Talk is whatever interests you about the environment. The Sunday evening tea and talk has been going on for many years—come be a part of the tradition.
