CLEARFIELD – As summer approaches, many wonderful memories emerge about hot summer days spent at the Clearfield Community Pool.
The pool opens this weekend for another fun-filled season and will be the ideal spot for both local families and out-of-town guests to create special memories all summer long.
Opening Day is slated to take place on Saturday, June 1, with the pool officially opening at 1 p.m., weather permitting.
On Sunday, June 2, the Clearfield Elks Lodge No. 540 will be sponsoring Community Day at the pool and admission is free.
The lodge will also provide free hot dogs starting at 1 p.m. until they run out. Attendees can also enter to win various prizes.
This marks the sixth year that the Elks lodge has graciously shown its support of the pool and the local community by sponsoring Community Day, which is a nice opportunity for residents to experience all the amenities the pool has to offer prior to purchasing a membership.
Memberships are still available at the pool office, located at the pool at 415 Polk St., Clearfield, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Memberships can also be purchased through the mail and sent to Clearfield Swimming Pool Association, P.O. Box 686, Clearfield, PA 16830. Pre-season rates are in effect now through opening weekend and are as follows:
- Adult Memberships, ages 19 to 61, are $75.
- Student Memberships, ages 6 through 18, are $65.
- Senior Citizen Memberships, age 62 and up, are $50.
- Young Child Memberships, ages 0 thru 5, are $30.
- Family Memberships are $165.
Family memberships include up to five people, with a maximum of two adults per family membership and an additional $20 per additional child.
All members on a family membership must reside in the same household. Proof of residency for all members is required.
Daily admission prices are $6 for children and $7 per adult. A group admission rate for non-profit groups of 20 or more persons is $5 per adult and each child is $4.
The pool can be rented for private parties with a $150 flat fee, plus $2 per person attending. Private parties are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to schedule a private party. Phone the pool managers from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 814-765-4951 to schedule a private party.
The Margie Krebs Memorial Pavilion can be rented, too. The pavilion will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. The rental fee is $75 for the entire day. Pavilion rentals must be paid in full at the time of the reservation.
The rental fee is non-refundable unless the pool is closed. Rental arrangements are preferred to be made seven days in advance. Parties can also be held during regular hours when the pool is open to the public and the pavilion can be rented.
Swim team practice will begin on Monday, June 10. The fee for swim team is $50 and participants must have a current pool membership. For anyone who miss registering for swim team or have any questions, contact Coach Jackie Morrison at 814-592-9908.
Swim lessons will begin Monday, June 17. The cost is $25 for 10 lessons that are held over a two-week period. Two sessions per day will be held: 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Also available will be a mother/father water babies/toddler swim class from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Price for 10 sessions is $25. The mother or father must be in the water with their child.
Class is designed to familiarize the child with the water. Register for swim lessons or water babies/toddler swim at the front gate of the pool.
Clearfield Community Pool Association officers include Brian Marshall – president, Lady Putt – vice president, Mary Walker – secretary and Becky Johnson – treasurer.
Directors are Sam Lombardo, Kevin Wain, Debbie Wain, Chris Bryan, Jen Bailor, Robert “Baldy” Shearer, Margaret Shearer, Chris Custaney, Shelly Farmery, Zach Unch, Jana Davidson, Kimberly Struble, Jay Siegel, Maureen Briskar, Jackie Morrison, Roger Hoyt and Ron Porter. Returning as Pool Managers for 2019 are Tristen Buck and Hayden Steiner.
Unlike most public pools, which are usually owned or operated by local municipal governments, Clearfield Community Pool is a private 501(c)3 non-profit organization and receives no local tax subsidy to fund its operations. The association is a United Way member agency.
To keep the pool well-maintained all summer long and year after year, the pool association has several fundraisers planned this year, including a Blueberry Fundraiser, which is back by popular demand and consists of 10-pound boxes of fresh-picked blueberries from New Jersey for $28 per box with orders being accepted through Friday, June 14 with pick-up on Tuesday, June 25 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Also, during the 100-Mile Yard Sale event, the association will be located along the Shawville-Frenchville Highway in Frenchville on July 19- 20. Its final fundraiser of the season will be the CRC Fall Festival held in downtown Clearfield on Oct. 12.
