PENFIELD – Staff members have announced the program schedule for May 31-June 2 at the Parker Dam State Park.
Friday, May 31
DiscoverE: Outdoor Explorers:
3 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
Age Requirement: 6-8 years-old
Join us as we learn about some of the incredibly interesting animals that inhabit our Earth, and especially Pennsylvania. Games, crafts, and other activities are a part of this summer-long program series. Check at the Park Office for more info.
Tornado!:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Join us on the 34th anniversary of the “Moshannon Forest” tornado as we look back at that incredible night of storms. We will learn a little about how tornadoes form and their destructive power.
Saturday, June 1
Hike—Souders Trail:
10 a.m. – outside Park Office
Enjoy the park’s shortest trail on a leisurely morning stroll through shady mixed hardwoods. Bring water if needed and wear appropriate footwear.
Solar Power for Kids:
1 p.m. – Beach House sidewalk
How can we use the sun’s energy? Learn some of the ways that the sun can be helpful to us. Passive solar, photo-voltaic, solar thermal, concentrating solar, and more.
CCC Trail Hike to Camp S-73:
3 p.m. – outside CCC Museum
Learn more about the Civilian Conservation Corps and what they did that remains such a legacy. We will hike the road they used while working to build the park. Wear appropriate shoes for a hiking trail.
Beavers:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Watch as we discover how amazing beavers are at transforming their environment. They are after all, nature’s engineers.
Sunday, June 2
- Parachute Games:
3 p.m. – Beach
Meet by the Beach House at the big parachute to play some parachute games with an environmental twist. All ages welcome.
Tea and Talk:
7 p.m. – Beach House steps
Bring your own cup to sample some sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown right here in the park. Talk is whatever interests you about the environment. The Sunday evening tea and talk has been going on for many years—come be a part of the tradition.
