CURWENSVILLE – A memorial service in honor of the interred veterans at the Watts Cemetery will be held at 11 a.m. May 25.
The ceremony will begin with welcoming and opening remarks, which will be followed by the cemetery flag recognition.
This flag was presented as a gift to the cemetery by Jim and Shirley Bennett in memory of all 62 veterans interred there.
The assemblage will be led in the Pledge of Allegiance by the Edward A. Rafferty Unit 632 American Legion Auxiliary to be followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
The ceremony will also honor two local, deceased veterans. The first is Master Sgt. Glenn Redden, who served three years in the U.S. Army and 20 years in the U.S. Air Force.
The second is Sgt. Lorraine Witherite, who served three years in the U.S. Women’s Army Corp. and 17 years with the U.S. Navy Reserves until retiring as Yeoman First Class.
The ceremony will continue with a patriotic song by U.S. Navy E-4 Petty Officer Ed Myrter and U.S. Army Cpl. Robert Rebon.
Pastor Bruce Dimmick, a Specialist 5 Army National Guard veteran, will then present scripture and prayer, which will be followed by another song from Myrter and Rebon.
The memorial recognition will be presented with local veterans reading the names of the Watts Cemetery’s interred soldiers with relation to their era of service.
The Tolling of the Bell will follow each name read to honor that veteran. The Taps will follow to conclude the ceremony.
The Watts Cemetery Association welcomes the public to attend this special service.
