CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners and Lawrence Township Supervisors have been receiving numerous calls daily from people concerned about the condition of Crown Crest Cemetery.
Immediate concerns are about the condition of the cemetery for Memorial Day, according to a joint press release issued Wednesday afternoon by the commissioners and supervisors.
“While the long-term ownership and ongoing care of the cemetery will have to be resolved through legal proceedings, the commissioners and supervisors have mutually agreed to share the cost to mow and clean up the cemetery once before Memorial Day,” the release stated.
“The workers who perform the mowing and clean-up will do their best, but the general public and people with loved ones buried at the cemetery should not expect perfection.”
According to the release, the public should be aware that the county and township are not taking legal ownership or responsibility for the cemetery. The long-term legal ownership and responsibility will be determined at a later date through legal proceedings.
Also, the commissioners and supervisors indicated they understand that people who have family members buried at Crown Crest are deeply upset by the current situation.
“However, we ask that no further phone calls be made to our offices as we, like all interested parties, must wait for the legal issues to be resolved, which may take many months or longer,” the release stated.
