CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Lady Tide girls softball team dumped visiting Harmony Monday afternoon, 11-1, in a game that was called in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out due to the ten run mercy rule going into effect.
Lady Tide head coach Allen Leigey liked what he saw in the win, saying afterwards, “I thought today we played better than we have the last three or four games, especially on defense. We cleaned up our game with good defense in both the infield and outfield today.”
Harmony did get its only score, one run, in the top of the first inning before the Lady Tide took control in the bottom of the first with three runs scored.
Curwensville would then pick up two more in the second, one in the fourth, three in fifth and then two in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.
Freshman third baseman Mackenzie Wall had a big triple in the first and four RBIs on the day while shortstop Abby Pentz, a sophomore, ended the game with a two run triple of her own in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Lady Tide winning pitcher Joslynne Freyer paced the offense with three hits and four RBIs with Wall also having two hits in the victory.
Leigey then talked about one of his freshmen, commenting, “As I said, we played well today, especially Mackenzie (Wall) both on defense and offense were she had those four runs batted in.”
Tide catcher Bailey Bloom scored four times in the win.
The only run the Lady Owls scored was by its catcher, Dorey Westover, in the first inning.
The Lady Tide (13-6) end its regular season on Wednesday with a road trip to Johnsonburg to battle the Ramettes at 4:15 pm. Curwensville defeated Johnsonburg in mid-April 10-9 on the Lady Tide’s home field.
