FLINTON – The Curwensville Area High School girls softball team suffered back to back losses for the first time this season, losing a road game to the Lady Vikings of Glendale on Wednesday 13-3. Curwensville, now 11-3, was beaten 12-2 on Tuesday by DuBois Central Catholic.
The Lady Vikings picked up two runs in the first inning and one in the third to jump out to a 3-0 edge over the Lady Tide.
Then Glendale zoomed in control with four tallies in the fourth inning and a big five spot in the bottom of the fifth.
Glendale’s Alaney Vereshack had the big blow in the fifth frame with a three run home run. On the day, the Viking shortstop knocked in four runs.
Chole McElheny, Glendale’s first baseman and relief pitcher, ended the game under the 10 run mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth with her lead off home run.
Olivia Reese, Alaney Vereshack and Madison Lukehart each had two hits for the Lady Vikings with Reese having three RBI’s on the afternoon.
The Lady Tide broke through on offense with three runs in the top of the fifth inning as Ally Hess, leading off, reached base on an error followed by Bella Guthrie’s single. Then Logan Sheeder reached base on an error which scored both Hess and Guthrie. Joslynne Freyer followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Sheeder and the Lady Tide’s final run.
Curwensville’s Taylor Luzier picked up two hits in the game.
The Lady Tide return home for a Friday game against Moshannon Valley starting at 4:15 pm.
