CURWENSVILLE – Continuing its winning streak, the Curwensville Lady Tide stretched that streak to nine games on Monday afternoon with a home field victory over the Purchase Line Lady Red Dragons, 15-0.
The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the third inning when the Lady Tide scored its 15th run to bring on the mercy rule.
Curwensville, now 10-2 on the year, had freshman pitcher Joslynne Freyer toss a three inning, one hit shutout to pick up her tenth win in the circle.
Purchase Line did hold the Lady Tide scoreless in the bottom of the first inning, but then had the roof fall in on them in the Tide’s second at bat as Curwensville put a huge 12 runs on the scoreboard.
The Lady Tide scored the dozen second inning runs on six singles while being issued seven bases on balls.
Mackenzie Wall had two singles in the second for the Tide with Logan Sheeder, Bailey Bloom, Lauren Tozer and Alyssa Bakaysa all collecting one each.
Bakaysa, a freshman, paced the Curwensville offense in the win with three RBI’s on the day while Hess and Wall each picked up two.
Wall was the only player with two hits in the game.
The only extra base hit for either squad was a third inning double by Lady Tide sophomore Ally Hess.
The lone hit for the Lady Red Dragons came in the top of the first inning on a single by first baseman Dana Campbell.
The Lady Tide are once again at home on Tuesday, against DuBois Central Catholic at 4:15 pm. The Lady Cardinals defeated Curwensville 16-1 in the season opener in DuBois.
