BROCKWAY – The Curwensville Lady Tide softball team picked up its first win of the new season Thursday in Brockway, defeating the Lady Rovers 12-1 in a game called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Freshman Joslynne Freyer picked up her first win, giving up just two hits while striking out 12 Lady Rovers.
Curwensville jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings, but in the top half of the fourth the Lady Tide scored eight times to put the game out of reach.
Brockway’s lone run came in the bottom half of the fourth inning.
Abby Pentz had three hits for Curwensville with Bailey Bloom and Lauren Tozer adding two each.
Lady Tide head coach Allen Leigey, happy with the first win, said afterwards, “ We played well tonight, all around, after the loss to DuBois Central Catholic on Tuesday. It was great to see Freyer (Joslynne) get her first win in the circle while another freshman Mackenzie Wall picked up her first hit.
Curwensville added five stolen bases on the afternoon, along with 12 hits, while receiving nine walks from the Lady Rovers.
The Lady Tide (1-1) are off until Tuesday when they play Clearfield at 4:30 PM on the Lady Bison home field.
