STATE COLLEGE – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting area drivers that an improvement project on Interstate 99 in Centre County will get started on Monday, March 25.
The work zone encompasses a 13-mile stretch of I-99 in Taylor, Worth, Huston, and Patton townships from mile marker 56 at the Blair/Centre County line to mile marker 69 near State College.
The work zone will include the high-speed interchange of I-99 and Route 322 near Port Matilda, the Grays Woods interchange near State College and the Atherton Street interchange near State College.
Work will include concrete patching, and longitudinal joint cleaning and sealing. Most work will be performed using short-term lane closures that will be in place only during work hours.
To reduce impacts to motorists, lane closures will be placed after 9 a.m. for northbound work and removed before 3 p.m. for southbound work.
PennDOT expects initial work to start in the northbound lanes at mile marker 56 near the Blair/Centre County line.
Swank Construction Company of New Kensington, Pa., is the contractor for this $1.9 million project, which is expected to be complete by the end of June. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution in all work zones, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
