CURWENSVILLE – Police have released more details about a vehicle pursuit that occurred Thursday.
According to Curwensville Borough police, an officer tried to stop a vehicle after a violation. However, the male driver fled and a pursuit ensued at the intersection of West Street and Naulton Road.
Police say the pursuit ended on Bear Run Road in Pine Township, where the vehicle became stuck. The male then exited his vehicle and was subdued by officers.
Police administered a standard field sobriety test and suspected the male, now identified as Dustin Leroy Welder, 32, of Grampian, of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Also, Welder was allegedly found in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine. He was transported to and housed in the Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Welder is charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude an officer; misdemeanor DUI/controlled substance; three misdemeanor counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance; six misdemeanor counts of use/possession of drug paraphernalia; and 10 summaries.
Curwensville Borough police were assisted by the Clearfield-based state police and the Lawrence Township and Sandy Township police departments.
