PHILIPSBURG – Philipsburg-Osceola senior Halle Herrington made the most of Senior Night on Monday on the Lady Mounties’ home floor, scoring 43 points in a 64-36 rout of the Curwensville Lady Tide.
The victory by Philipsburg-Osceola evened its overall season record to 9-9.
In a game that was basically somewhat over after the first six minutes, the Lady Mounties went on a 16-0 run to start the contest before the Lady Tide put points on the board thanks to a three pointer by Briana Swindell with 1:50 to play in the opening quarter.
Another 9-0 run by Philipsburg-Osceola to end the first had the Lady Mounties sitting pretty, leading 25-3 moving onto the second eight minutes of action.
In that first quarter Herrington had 17 of her game high 43 points.
The Lady Tide did manage to win one quarter, the second, 15-14, but that was when Philipsburg-Osceola started to pull Herrington out of the game at times.
Outscoring Curwensville 11-4 in the third quarter, the Lady Mounties stretched its margin to 50-22 heading into the final frame and heading to victory number nine.
Curwensville did have two girls in double figures with Madison Weber scoring 13 points and Briana Swindell adding 10.
The two teams spent a fair amount of time at the foul line with the Lady Tide going 11 of 26 while Philipsburg-Osceola was 9 of 22.
Seniors honored before the game for the Lady Mounties were Herrington, Cassidy Hughes, Jalyn James, Samantha Hughes and Maddie Lucas. And in a nice gesture the three Curwensville seniors were also recognized that included Weber, Brittney Wagner and Kaitlyn McCracken.
The junior varsity game was won by Curwensville, beating the Lady Mounties 35-24.
The Lady Tide (4-12) play again on Tuesday, traveling to DuBois to battle DuBois Central Catholic with the JV game tipping off at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
DCC defeated Curwensville in January 66-44 on the Lady Tide’s home floor.
