CLEARFIELD – Digital Media Arts students from the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center participated in the Hour of Code, a global movement aiming to get students excited about computer science, on Dec. 7.
The Hour of Code campaign takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week in early December, in commemoration of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper.
“The Hour of Code is designed to demystify code and show that computer science is not rocket science—anybody can learn the basics,” said Hadi Partovi, founder and chief executive officer of Code.org.
“Over 100 million students worldwide have tried an Hour of Code. The demand for relevant 21st-century computer science education crosses all borders and knows no boundaries.”
During their Hour of Code, the Digital Media Arts students got an introduction to the coding language JavaScript, which they then used to create their own “Star Wars” game using a blocks-to-text environment.
